At home with a bottle of wine and a book...too many drunks on the street, I go out during the week.

As I get older I increasingly feel that I have less and less to lose and whatever mistakes I might make or disasters befall me I would like to feel in retrospect that at least I tried however life turns out. Those who know me well might say that I am quiet and thoughtful at least on first acquaintance, but there is a wild streak buried in my psyche which surfaces in certain moods. Clubs and anywhere else where conversation is impossible are not for me; better a glass of whiskey over a fire in a mountain bothy or having friends round for dinner at home. Though walking down the High Street one day my faith in serendipity was restored by the sight of a deer returning my gaze briefly before disappearing over the road to quieter company in the Necropolis. Speaking of faith, I am not religious but think it’s important to believe in something if only a healthy sense of skepticism and wonder at the world. I've seen quite a bit of the globe from Russia to Central America and it makes me value what we have here, even the weather. Despite appearances, history has been kind to us compared to how things might have turned out. Who knows what tomorrow will bring...
