I know in this day and age of text speak it's popular to shorten words etc but I don't think that's an excuse to neglect grammar and spelling. When I've had to mark papers I've found basic common errors! Education is more than knowledge surely?
Next week I'll be teaching an introductory course to Japanese students (long story) and I expect them to make some grammatical errors and our emphasis is to make them understand anatomy etc rather than worry about spelling errors. I can accept this as they have a lot to learn in a foreign language. The students themselves still care though and still make an effort on their grammar which is more than the British students do - why I wonder? Mini quiz - choose the correct word:- 1) The wait/weight of the bag was to/too much for the little girl to carry. 2) The man could of/have carried the bag for her but weighted/waited for her to ask for help. 3) You should ask if there/their are any directions to the party. 4) If your/you're fed up with life why not try smiliing? Answers on a postcard to me at a blue place - just don't email me as I can't reply! |

I've been told off for my last diary entry and I have to re-write it. Nothing like being put in one's place is there? Apologies to Admin and to those who have sent emails that I can't reply to currently.
Also had a telling off this morning from a colleague that checks my health for me - I've been a bit stressed and run down lately! Doesn't help that the last few nights I've been reading a thriller till the wee hours, I finished it last night though. Oh well never mind it'll all sort itself out in the end.... |

To add to my general inadequacy I see that my rating has dropped right down over this last week.....oh the horror!

I haven't written anything for a few days mainly because I've been feeling a bit off lately....but that's another story.
I don't know if anyone else watched the BBC programme on Super Doctors (or something like that) it featured a Doctor who's been using old fashioned i.e. cheaper and non-invasive measures to correct club feet in Malawi. He dedicates all his free time to working in Africa and the rest working for the NHS here. He was incredibly dedicated to caring for his patients across the world, he made me feel I don't do enough. I feel I lack inspiration as I can't imagine giving so much of myself - so I question am I really too selfish to do so? Perhaps that's the key to why I'm single and don't even get dates to turn up? Hmmm it's a conundrum... |

So, today is the start of a new week, however, the news about the demise of Lehman Brothers just reminded me of the days when I was embroiled in the fall of the first big Japanese bank. I am so grateful that I had the sense to get out and retrain. This week I'm teaching for a few days for a change and it's lovely. No point worrying about that which I can't control.
