Yes, it's just over a month since the milkman ran his van into the side of my car and wrote it off. Went out car shopping yesterday and decided on something a bit smaller and more economical. I'm going to miss the little gadgets though, like the rear parking sensors, and the 6 cd player. Most of all, I'll miss the voice activated bluetooth, so I can control my phone, air-con, and radio. It's quite cool to be able to say 'News', and the stereo will tune into Radio 4, or 'Classic', then it will tune to Classic FM.

Once I was driving along and came up behind a couple of lads cycling in the middle of the road with no lights. I gave 'em a little toot as they seemed oblivious to my presence, which naturally was met with 2 fingers. 'F***ing kids' I muttered, at which point my radio started playing Gary Glitter

I've finally managed to pick up a decent bike off an ebay auction. Looks a real beaut in the photo, going to collect it in the morning. Was expecting my brother to arrive from the US this morning, but he's decided not to come, for some inexplicable reason, It would have been nicer to let us know before we went to the airport to collect him!! Maybe that what's 30 years living in the states does for you!

Today, August 11th, we bid farewell to that great man of soul, Mr Isaac Hayes. It would've been nice to commemorate his premature departure with one of his tunes, but the cupboard is bare. Not even the theme from Shaft...tut tut PP.

Went out for a long bike ride on Sunday, the first time for ages, and being the hottest day of the year, naturally I went far too far!! Must've been a 30 mile round trip, but found some lovely blackberries en route. Plump and juicy, straight off the bush. Takes you back to an earlier age when there were no supermarkets or instant meals, and man had to forage for whatever nature happened to provide. A bit like when I were a lad growing up in Barnsley!

On the way back I imagined stopping off at the last pub before home, and having a long cool pint. Anyone who remembers the film 'Ice cold in Alex' will know what I mean. Except I was thwarted by failing to take any money out with me! All I had was a little loose change with which I managed to have a lime and soda, not even a pint of that! I'm still saddle sore, but a few more rides like that will soon toughen up those delicate bits.
